NB Instructional Technician – SPED Cluster Unit (Two positions). Lane 2, $12.25/hour. 5.75 hours/day, 5 days/week, 177 days/year. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply. There are no benefits with this position. Instructional Technicians provide specialized intervention techniques for students with intensive needs. Will work with other technicians and certified teacher to teach students with autism. Training is required at the end of July or first part of August; training, ongoing professional development/collaboration, and access to behavior and autism specialists is part of the job. The position requires data collection, following behavior intervention plans, and managing difficult behaviors in a calm, but responsive manner. May need to be flexible on daily assignments. Will work with at-risk students one-on-one; follow educational and specific behavioral plans; document students daily activities; and model appropriate behaviors and interactions with student and staff. Job Requirements: Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; displaying patience and compassion; advocating for students rights; and working with frequent interruptions. Knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: behavior management and autism. Skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; preparing and maintaining accurate records; utilizing behavior management tools; and utilizing observed behavior as an assessment tool. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
